JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The wrath of Hurricane Sandy left behind flooded homes, fallen trees, and widespread power outages. Help is on the way.
Organizations like Mission Harvest America are ramping up its efforts to help. Call it neighbors helping neighbors.
"New Jersey, New York, New England, they've sent stuff down here during hurricanes so now it is our turn to return to them," said Dewey Painter.
Painter is president of Mission Harvest and he's already reached out to an area in need.
"We are going to Trenton, New Jersey," said Painter.
First Coast News and United Way of Northeast Florida have teamed up to help Mission Harvest meet the needs of those affected by Sandy and that means we have to fill a lot of barrels with clothing and food
"We need volunteers, we need food," said Painter, "Preferably cans with the pop top. Something you can cook without a stove, baked beans, stuff like that."
